Kharmang District


Kharmang is one of the 14, Pakistan’s territory-administered districts of Gilgit-Pakistan, lying on the borderlines of the country. The exact location of Kharmang district is where River Indus enters the premises of the country from Leh Deh district in India. Kharmang is a Balti word that consists of two parts (Khar means “fort” and mang means “abundant”). The name Kharmang was named in the era of Ali Sher Khan Anchan, who built many forts in this region because of its strategic importance.

Distance From Skardu:

Skardu is the capital of the Baltistan region, Pakistan. This is the only city in North that has an Airport to facilitate tourism and provide a gateway to other districts of Gilgit-Baltistan. The distance of Kharmang from Skardu is 127 km, usually takes around 45 min via Airport road, Skardu.


The best time to visit Kharmang, Pakistan is from July to September, when the weather is very pleasant, not too cold and not too hot. In winters, the temperature level drops to -17C while in summers, it’s 5C.

Apples are very famous in Kharmang, with the local name ‘Saspolo’, So when you go, don’t miss getting your hands on this special, organic, and juicy fruit.

There are no hotels in Kharmang. The place has rest places for short time stays. Visitors leave Skardu early in the morning, drive to Kharmang to explore its beauty, and return by sunset to their hotels in Skardu.


You should take your CNIC (if nationals) to visit Kharmang district since the location is borderline of the country while a valid VISA and a passport are must-bring-along for tourists.
