K2 is a fascinating mountain and the world’s 2nd highest peak. The K2 Base Camp Trek is one of the greatest adventure treks in the world. The sheer size and scale of the 8000-meter peaks defy description, but this is a very special place and for many, the view is a lifetime goal. K2 stands north-western among the rugged Karakoram Range, partly in the Kashmir region at an enormous altitude of 5117m, with all its charisma risen and manifested as ever. The trek takes around 14 days in total and starts in the village of Askole. K2 base camp trek distance is 90 km, which involves daily trekking of 6-7 hours from Askole village.
BEST TIME FOR THIS TREK:
The months of July, August, and September are the best to undertake the trek. However, you can also trek in October and November but with extra care, as the temperature starts to drop low by mid of November.
PLACES AND GLACIERS THAT YOU WILL SEE:
There are several enormous glaciers and passes that you would see while on your trek while stopping at few places for stays and rest.
The sound ones that await your way to K2 base camp are:
- Starting from Askole to Braldu Valley;
- Trek to Jola;
- Trek to Paiyu; while witnessing the beautiful Braldo and Biaho rivers;
- Trek to Kurbutuse; trekking on Baltoro Glacier, and astounding Paiyu peak;
- Then, Crossing a couple of icy slides of Broad Peak and Gasherbrum.
- Trekking 7-hr to GORO-II, reaching Masherbrum on the right while the great Gasherbrum IV right in front;
- Then, comes Concordia and finally, K2 base camp after 4-5 hour trekking from Concordia.

It is a dream destination for trekkers, offering fresh air, stunning scenery, and the chance to reconnect with nature.
While trekking with the group, Trekkers usually spend a memorable time together, to enjoy the locals, dance, and hospitality on their way, especially at Paiyu. The group guide takes photographs, does camping off and on-site and in cases of bad weather.
Meals are supplementary as trekkers must take good protein during their activity, so a goat is sacrificed and meat is distributed or pork chicken is also offered.
But DO NOT expect any teahouses during the trek or comfortable night stays along the trails. As a good-fiber, and insulated tent, fire, and fleeces are your resort at night.
Important To remember:
To trek to K2 base camp foreigners must have a licensed guide with them and obtain a No Objection Certificate from the tourism office in Skardu. The trek begins at Askole, which is a six-hour drive via 4WD from Skardu, in turn, a short domestic flight from Islamabad (journey time: one hour). Trekkers can leave excess luggage in Skardu at their guesthouse.
